This week, Dowson received a conviction at York Crown Court for two counts of indecent assault and one sexual assault, spanning offenses committed against multiple victims from the 1990s up until recent times.

During the proceedings, she delivered a heartfelt statement directly addressing Dowson, expressing how his actions forever altered her life.

She stated: “Your actions changed my life irreparably — not just mine, but the lives of many others affected by the ripple effect of what you did.

“The pain and fear you caused me are permanent.

They infiltrate my daily life and invade places where I once felt safe.

The harm isn't something that simply fades away with time; it continues to follow me and, I believe, will always do so.” She emphasized that the abuse had damaged her ability to trust others, sharing: “I now question my own instincts.

That day, you stole a part of my happiness, safety, and peace of mind.

“I despise giving that power to another person, but I would hate even more to see you escape justice.” Dowson received a 14-month custodial sentence, suspended for two years, along with an order to complete 250 hours of community service.

He was also subjected to a decade-long Sexual Harm Prevention Order, imposing further restrictions to prevent reoffending, with oversight managed by specialized police officers.

Additionally, he was given a 10-year restraining order and was registered on the sex offenders’ register.

The woman expressed her relief at the outcome, noting that the measures taken ensure Dowson will be monitored closely to reduce the risk of him reoffending.
