A “WARPED” SEXUAL PREDATOR HAS BEEN JAILED FOR 11 YEARS AFTER HE SUBJECTED A YOUNG GIRL TO HORRENDOUS SEXUAL ABUSE
David Boyes, aged 55 and a resident of Church Square, Whitby, appeared in court at York Crown Court on Tuesday to be sentenced after admitting to the sexual assault of a minor.Prosecutor Soheil Khan explained that the victim suffered significant psychological trauma as a result of the abuse.
According to Mr Khan, the girl confided in friends about what had happened, but did not report the incidents to authorities for several years because she was led to believe that her experiences were normal.
As an adult, she disclosed the abuse to her partner, prompting her to contact the police in February.
Following her report, Boyes was detained and admitted to the offences.
He expressed feelings of remorse for his actions.
The victim described feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and stress after the abuse.
She also felt deprived of her education due to what Boyes inflicted, experienced flashbacks, and struggled with very low self-esteem.
She was confused about her own guilt, the court heard.
“She feels broken and has begun receiving counselling,” Mr Khan stated.
Defence solicitor Kevin Blount said Boyes had no prior criminal record and was genuinely remorseful for his actions.
Judge Sean Morris, the Recorder of York, characterised the crimes as “horrendous”.
He told Boyes: “You subjected the victim to serious sexual abuse.
Your misconduct was driven by a warped attraction to the girl,” the judge added.
Boyes was sentenced to 11 years in prison, with the court specifying that he must serve an additional year on extended license upon release, after serving half his sentence.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subject to a 20-year sexual-harm prevention order.
