JOHN CLARK AND GANG FROM GLASGOW FACE LONG SENTENCE IN SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the city of Glasgow, seven individuals have been convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of children.The defendants, which include five men and two women, were found guilty in a landmark trial that is believed to be the largest prosecution of a child abuse ring in Scotland's history.
The convictions were handed down in November, following months of detailed investigation and courtroom proceedings that uncovered a pattern of depravity and violence.
Among those convicted are John Clark, along with others named Owens, Lannery, Brannan, Williams, and Marianne Gallagher.
The court heard that these individuals engaged in a series of brutal acts, including sexual assault and attempted murder.
Specifically, Owens, Lannery, Brannan, and Williams were found guilty of attempting to murder a young girl by pushing her into a microwave oven and subsequently trapping her in various locations, demonstrating a level of cruelty that has left the community in shock.
Gallagher, a woman involved in the case, was convicted of assaulting a young girl.
Her sentence was deferred for a year on the grounds of good behaviour, and she was released on bail pending further proceedings.
In addition to the convictions, the court acquitted three other defendants—Mark Carr, aged 50; Richard Gachagan, aged 45; and Leona Laing, aged 51—who were found not guilty of the charges brought against them.
The trial, held at the High Court in Glasgow, revealed that the victims, two girls and a boy—all under the age of 13 at the time—were subjected to repeated acts of violence and sexual abuse over a period spanning from 2012 to 2019.
The abuse was described as both violent and sexually explicit, with the perpetrators using Class A drugs openly in front of the children and forcing them to consume alcohol and illicit substances.
The court heard harrowing accounts from the victims, including a young girl who was raped by members of the gang while she was still in nappies.
She described her ordeal as being confined in what she called the
