JIMMY DRAPER SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR GILLINGHAM AND ROBERTSBRIDGE CHILD RAPE CASE
In a case that has shocked the communities of Gillingham and Robertsbridge, Jimmy Draper, a 36-year-old man from Gillingham, Kent, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 16 years after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences involving a young girl from Robertsbridge.The offences, which took place during 2004 and 2005, involved Draper engaging in heinous acts against a girl who was only 14 years old at the time.
The crimes included two counts of rape, one count of sexual activity with a minor, and another of inciting a child to participate in sexual acts.
These grave allegations were brought to light after the victim reported the abuse to authorities in March of the previous year, prompting a comprehensive investigation by police.
Following the report, law enforcement officials launched a detailed inquiry that culminated in Draper’s arrest in November.
The case was subsequently brought before Lewes Crown Court, where Draper faced justice for his actions.
After an 11-day trial, the jury found him guilty on all counts, leading to his conviction and sentencing.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Kemp addressed Draper directly, stating, “You violated her for your own sexual gratification.
For these horrible brutal offences, you have to pay the price.” The judge’s words underscored the severity of the crimes and the need for justice to be served.
Detective Constable Carol Shoesmith, who led the investigation, expressed her thoughts on the case, emphasizing Draper’s controlling nature and his blatant disregard for the profound emotional and mental suffering inflicted upon his victim.
She highlighted that the victim had endured years of pain and fear, unable to disclose her ordeal earlier due to her terror.
Detective Shoesmith also conveyed her hope that Draper’s lengthy imprisonment would aid the victim in moving forward with her life, knowing that justice had been achieved.
She took the opportunity to encourage other victims of sexual abuse to come forward, assuring them that law enforcement is committed to bringing perpetrators to justice and providing support for those affected.
