JHAMIL HUSSAN SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN BIRMINGHAM
A Birmingham-based taxi driver accused of predatory behavior and rape has received a nine-year prison sentence.Jhamil Hussan, aged 39, targeted a female passenger after picking her up outside a nightclub in Birmingham city centre.
He initially drove her from the Nightingale Club on Kent Street at around 2.30am on April 17.
During the journey, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) stated that the pair engaged in small talk, but Hussan groped her at some point.
After dropping her near her home, Hussan parked his car nearby, and the victim began to walk away.
However, he then approached her from behind, grabbed her, took her into a nearby park, and subsequently raped her.
The victim confided in her parents about her ordeal upon returning home, prompting the police to be called.
Hussan was later found parked outside the nightclub, leading to his arrest.
During questioning, he denied the allegations, claiming that he was innocent and suggesting that the victim had assaulted him instead.
However, Birmingham Crown Court convicted him on two counts of rape after evidence disproved his defenses.
He was sentenced on Friday, July 7.
James Gormley, a senior crown prosecutor with the West Midlands CPS's rape and serious sexual offences unit, expressed support for the victim's bravery.
He said, "Jhamil Hussan is a dangerous sexual predator who targeted and raped a vulnerable woman.
When he was arrested, he claimed the victim had forced herself onto him and that he had tried to stop her.
This was a blatant lie.
I would like to thank the victim for her courage and support in helping us to bring this man to justice."
