JEREMY FELTIS FROM MELKSHAM SENTENCED FOR OVER 5,000 INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
In a significant case that highlights ongoing concerns about child exploitation and online abuse, Jeremy Michael Feltis, a 51-year-old resident of Melksham, was sentenced to eight months in prison after admitting to possessing and creating indecent images of children. The arrest and subsequent conviction stemmed from a police investigation that began on March 10, 2010, when authorities from the Metropolitan Police provided information leading to a search at Feltis's residence in Brampton Court, Melksham.During the search, all computer equipment located at the address was confiscated for forensic analysis. The examination of two laptops belonging to Feltis uncovered a disturbing collection of digital material, including a total of 5,115 indecent images of children, 292 indecent films depicting minors, and over 700 erotic stories related to children. The investigation also revealed that an indecent image of a child was being used as a screensaver on one of the devices, further underscoring the severity of the offense.
Feltis, who previously worked as an ambulance driver, appeared before Swindon Crown Court last Friday to face sentencing. The court handed down an eight-month prison term and also mandated that his name be added to the sex offenders register for a period of ten years, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities following his release.
Acting Detective Inspector Mike Selbie, representing the Wiltshire Police Public Protection Unit, issued a statement emphasizing the gravity of such offenses. He stated, “Viewing and downloading indecent images of children constitutes child abuse and fuels a demand that can lead to further harm and exploitation of minors. By collaborating with other law enforcement agencies and partner organizations, we aim to target individuals involved in these activities, thereby reducing the demand and protecting more children from abuse.”
He further added, “We take all reports of sexual abuse very seriously. Our specialized teams are trained to handle all aspects of such crimes, whether against children or adults. Victims can be assured that their reports will be believed and thoroughly investigated by our highly trained officers.”
Authorities urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse or suspects that children are being exploited to contact Wiltshire Police at 101 or to report anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111. The ongoing efforts of law enforcement aim to dismantle networks of abuse and bring offenders like Feltis to justice, ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable children in the community.
