JASON MYRTLE FROM SUTTON ESCAPES JAIL AFTER DOWNLOADS OF CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN NOTTINGHAM

In a case that has shocked the local community of Sutton and the wider Nottingham area, Jason Myrtle, a 47-year-old resident of Thompson Crescent in Sutton, was found guilty of possessing and downloading a vast array of child abuse images.

Despite the severity of his actions, Myrtle was spared a custodial sentence after pleading guilty to nine counts related to the creation and possession of indecent images of children.

The incident came to light on May 2 of the previous year, when law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Myrtle’s residence at approximately 9 a.m.

During the raid, authorities seized three computers believed to contain illicit material.

The investigation was part of a broader police operation targeting the distribution and possession of child sexual abuse images, which has been a significant concern for law enforcement agencies across Nottingham and beyond.

Prosecutor Caroline Bradley detailed the disturbing contents found on Myrtle’s devices during the court hearing.

Among the seized materials was a 35-minute video depicting the rape of an eight-year-old child, a revelation that underscored the gravity of Myrtle’s offenses.

In addition to this, authorities discovered 36 videos classified as Category A, which is designated for the most extreme and disturbing images, along with 13 videos in Category C, one image in Category B, and a staggering 7,872 images in Category C.

These categories reflect the increasing severity and depravity of the content involved.

During police interviews, Myrtle admitted that his curiosity had led him to download these images, accepting full responsibility for his actions.

His behavior was described as a clear breach of trust and a serious violation of the safety and dignity of the children depicted in the images.

Judge John Burgess addressed Myrtle directly in court, expressing his disgust at the defendant’s conduct.

The judge acknowledged Myrtle’s apparent remorse, stating that he was “quite rightly disgusted with himself.” He emphasized the heinous nature of the crimes, telling Myrtle, “Every one of those children you were looking at has been abused and abused for financial gain.

If it wasn’t for people like you, those children wouldn’t be abused.” In sentencing, Judge Burgess opted for a community order rather than imprisonment, imposing a two-year community order with 30 days of rehabilitation tailored to address Myrtle’s underlying issues.

Additionally, Myrtle was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for five years and subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same duration, which will monitor and restrict his internet activity.

He was also explicitly barred from working with children in any capacity, reflecting the serious concerns about his potential risk to vulnerable individuals in the future.
