2007: JUDGES SLASH SEX OFFENDERS SENTENCE
2007: A man convicted of sexual assault who had taken advantage of a vulnerable teenage girl saw his prison sentence reduced by leading judges.Jason Main, aged 37 and residing on Ainsworth Lane in Tonge Moor, was sentenced to two and a half years at Preston Crown Court in June after pleading guilty to two counts of indecent assault.
Main had molested a 14-year-old girl while she was sleeping and subsequently engaged in sexual activity with her.
However, during an appeal hearing at London's Court of Appeal yesterday, Judge Scott Gall stated that the sexual intercourse was consensual.
While acknowledging Main's role as the primary instigator, Judge Gall reduced his term to 18 months, describing the original sentence as unnecessarily excessive.
