BLACKBURN RAPIST'S APPEAL THROWN OUT
A ‘DANGEROUS’ rapist who assaulted a prostitute, then threatened to harm her further by tying her up, hanging her from hooks in the ceiling, and photographing her, was unable to have his potentially lifelong prison sentence overturned.Jason Clegg, aged 37 and residing on Burton Street in Blackburn, took the woman to his flat for paid, consensual sex.
However, he then refused to let her leave and forced her to have sex again against her will, as the London’s Criminal Appeal Court heard.
During the 2007 incident, Clegg reportedly issued threats so severe that they were described as ‘spine-chilling,’ and he repeatedly pushed the victim onto the sofa and floor when she attempted to get up.
He admitted to charges of rape and false imprisonment, resulting in a sentence of indefinite imprisonment for public protection at Preston Crown Court in November 2007.
This type of sentence is specifically reserved for dangerous offenders, meaning Clegg will remain imprisoned until the Parole Board considers it safe to release him.
His legal team argued that he had been wrongly classified as a dangerous offender.
Nonetheless, Mr Justice Ouseley, presiding over London’s Criminal Appeal Court, stated that Clegg planned this attack and that it had a lasting impact on his victim.
Additionally, he pointed out that there was no explanation provided for the presence of hooks in the ceiling of Clegg’s flat.
