WINCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR SEX ATTACK ON JOGGER
A 43-year-old man named Jason Chester received a five-year prison sentence following his conviction for sexually assaulting a woman during her early morning run in Winchester city centre.The assault took place around 5:00 a.m.
on October 12 on St Georges Street.
During a prior hearing, Chester confessed to two counts of assault by penetration and was later sentenced to five years at Winchester Crown Court.
The police linked him to the crime through DNA analysis, which led to his arrest four days after the incident.
Witness reports indicated he was seen fleeing from the scene, and police tracked his movements within the city both before and after the attack.
Chester was finally taken into custody on October 16 while checking into a hotel at Membury Services along the M4 motorway.
Detective Constable Matt Chapman commented, “This was a disturbing incident where a man assaulted a woman he did not know.
We appreciate the bravery and perseverance of the victim throughout this investigation.” The woman reported the attack later that morning, and police confirmed Chester’s identity based on evidence collected, resulting in his conviction and prison sentence.
