MAN ASSAULTED PARTNER THEN RUBBED HER FACE IN CAT LITTER AND TRIED TO MAKE HER EAT IT
A man has been sentenced to prison for a brutal and sadistic assault on his former girlfriend, resulting in severe injuries all over her body and an incident where he forced her face into a tray of cat litter, attempting to make her eat it.Jared Warlow, aged 29, used multiple weapons during the attack, choked her, tore off her clothing, bit part of her ear, and forcibly pressed her face into the litter.
Swansea Crown Court was told that Warlow, who has a history of violence against partners, claimed during his arrest that the woman had attacked him first because he refused her sexual requests, alleging self-defence.
The victim was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where doctors found numerous serious injuries, including a bilateral jaw fracture, six broken ribs, a fractured spine, multiple liver wounds, a deformed right ear missing the top portion, facial, bodily, and arm bruising and swelling, along with a traumatic knee injury.
The court was informed that she now suffers from tinnitus, facial numbness from nerve damage, a deformed ear, chipped teeth, and permanent sensory loss from her nose to her neck.
Describing the attack as "sadistic" and "horrific beyond words," the judge sentenced Warlow to an extended 16-year term as a dangerous offender, reports Wales Online.
Prosecutor Craig Jones told the court that Warlow and the woman had only been together for a few weeks when the assault happened.
They met at a Wetherspoons pub where the woman worked.
On June 28 this year, they were at her home, where Warlow was drinking vodka to counteract earlier cocaine use.
When she tried to leave to meet friends, he grabbed her, dragged her to the floor, and began a brutal assault that lasted around 45 minutes.
Warlow repeatedly struck her and tore her clothes before jumping onto her head while she was curled up and kicking her.
He also beat her with a loft ladder, then switched to hitting her with a fan and a vacuum cleaner.
At one point, he threatened to throw her out of a window, saying he might as well kill her.
The defendant dragged her downstairs, attempted to force her outside naked, and continued assaulting her with punches and kicks.
He bit a chunk from her ear and then restrained her by squeezing her neck until she felt she might lose consciousness.
Warlow then took her into the kitchen, banged her head against cupboards, poured a drink over her, rubbed her face in a cat litter tray, and tried to make her eat the litter.
She escaped partially clothed into the garden but was chased by Warlow, who told children nearby that she was fleeing because he refused her sexual request.
A neighbour sheltered her, and the police arrived.
Officers described her as largely unresponsive, capable of only squeezing a hand, and by that time, Warlow had fled the scene after contacting a friend for transport; he was later found via the vehicle he had used.
The victim’s statement detailed her pain and humiliation, stating the attack left her anxious and depressed.
Warlow, from Llanelli, had already admitted to causing grievous bodily harm with intent during sentencing, with past convictions including attempted robbery, possession of an imitation firearm, breach of restraining order, and multiple assaults resulting in actual bodily harm.
His previous assaults on partners and street attacks, where he called a man derogatory names and kicked him, were also cited.
Legal representative James Hartson said Warlow believed intoxication played a role in the incident and that he had written a from the court expressing remorse and regret.
Judge Geraint Walters remarked that he had rarely seen such disturbing case details outside of murder trials.
He described Warlow’s treatment of the woman as "sadistic" and "beyond words horrific," and characterized the defendant as a "violent individual" with a pattern of violence toward women.
The judge concluded that an extended sentence was necessary to protect the public.
Warlow received a 16-year sentence, reduced slightly for his guilty plea, consisting of 12 years in prison followed by four years on license.
He is eligible to apply for parole after serving two-thirds of the custodial term.
