THUG SPAT IN PARTNER'S FACE AND THREATENED TO PETROL BOMB HOME
According to reports, Jamie Storey was overwhelmed by jealousy, accusing his partner of sleeping with other men.At Teesside Crown Court, it was detailed that Storey has a history of violent conduct, including a prior conviction for violence against a previous partner, resulting in a 21-month jail term in March 2022.
The 32-year-old resident of Oakerside Drive in Peterlee was convicted unanimously after a recent trial of several offences: controlling or coercive behavior in a relationship, assault by beating, and threatening to damage or destroy property.
He also pleaded guilty to a similar threat-related charge on the day just before his trial.
Storey appeared by video link from Holme House Prison in Stockton for his sentencing hearing on Wednesday, May 20.
Prosecutor Rebecca Brown read a victim impact statement to the court, describing the emotional toll since the relationship's end.
The victim explained how her mental health and daily life deteriorated due to Storey’s actions, which included threats to set her home alight and damage her property.
She recounted episodes where Storey had physically assaulted her by grabbing and shoving her around, while making accusations of infidelity and insulting her with derogatory terms.
She also reported that he spat in her face after a confrontation in her garden, during which he forcefully pushed her.
She expressed that she now lives in constant fear for her safety, saying, “I’m in fear of my life and terrified of what he is capable of doing.” Miss Brown added that threats were made about the victim’s property, with an incident involving a broken window and sightings of masked figures outside her residence, although it was not confirmed that Storey was responsible.
Defending Storey, Calum McNicholas explained that his client was exposed to domestic violence during childhood, which gave him some insight into his behavior.
He also stated that Storey intends to relocate away from the area where his former partner resides once he is released from prison.
During the sentencing, Judge Jeremy Hill-Baker pointed out that Storey’s relationship was characterised by deep jealousy and unfounded suspicions about his partner’s fidelity, which led to abusive and threatening conduct.
The judge listed actions such as physical assault, threats to kill, offensive remarks, spitting, and threats to cause damage or harm.
The court imposed a 30-month prison sentence, emphasising the emotional impact on the victim and her resulting fear.
A restraining order was also issued, preventing Storey from contacting or approaching the victim for the next ten years to ensure her ongoing protection.
