MET POLICE OFFICER SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR ASSAULT AND COERCIVE BEHAVIOR
A Metropolitan Police officer, 27-year-old PC Jamie Rayner, who works with the South Area Command Unit, has received a custodial sentence following his conviction for assault resulting in actual bodily harm and for engaging in controlling and coercive conduct.Rayner appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on 8 September, where he admitted guilt to both charges.
The subsequent sentencing took place at Croydon Crown Court on 4 November, resulting in a sentence of two years and three months in prison.
The officer was taken into custody on 24 March, with the offenses occurring off duty between 18 and 21 March.
He has been suspended from his policing duties, and misconduct proceedings are set to proceed alongside the criminal case.
Chief Superintendent Dave Stringer stated that Rayner’s behaviour is unacceptable and damages public trust, but he also reaffirmed the police’s dedication to investigating such crimes and supporting victims of coercive control and related misconduct.
