FOOTBALL COACH AND REFEREE JAILED FOR STALKING AND HARASSMENT
A court heard that Jamie Key, a football coach and referee, sent hundreds of text messages to a woman and sent flowers to her workplace.
She stated in a court statement that his behavior has had a lasting impact on her, leading her to avoid buses and take taxis for routine trips to avoid contact.
Key also harassed a man, sending him unwanted Facebook messages and threatening to knock him out and kill him.
He expressed concern that his messages threatened his toddler.
Key, 29, of Park Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, pleaded guilty to stalking without fear/alarm/distress between October 7 and October 26, 2019, involving sending unwanted messages, gifts, and following the woman.
He also admitted harassment of the man with abusive messages of a similar nature.
He showed remorse during the interview and in a pre-sentence report.
He is a support worker and qualified coach and referee.
Due to his offenses, he was suspended by The Football Association from working, and the magistrates sentenced him to an 18-month community order, 15 rehabilitation days, 60 hours of unpaid work, and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £90.
A restraining order bans him from contacting the victims for one year.
