BARNSLEY MAN JAILED FOR BREAKING INTO WOMAN'S HOME, STRANGLING AND RAPING HER

A Barnsley man who committed a brutal attack involving breaking into a woman's home with an axe and knife, then strangling and raping her, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Jamie Goose, aged 35, told the woman that she "deserved to be treated like that" following the assault in April this year.

Sheffield Crown Court was told that on April 24, Goose sent the woman numerous messages and phone calls beforehand, stating "you'll be crying tonight," before arriving at her residence later that day to inflict a four-hour ordeal.

Goose forced his way inside by smashing through the back patio door, then continued to follow her upstairs where he strangled her, verbally assaulted her, and raped her, before fleeing the scene.

After the event, he sent another message claiming, "This what you wanted finally pushed her over the edge." Following his arrest, Goose pleaded guilty to charges including rape, non-fatal strangulation, and possession of an offensive weapon, and was consequently sentenced to prison.

Detective Constable Alice Gilbert from South Yorkshire Police stated, "The victim has shown exceptional bravery, and we thank her for her support throughout the investigation.

She has conducted herself with dignity and strength.

We hope this sentence helps her to move on and provides safety for her and the wider community from such a violent and morally corrupt individual."
