Edinburgh Man Jailed for Domestic Abuse, Including Physical and Verbal Attacks (VICTIM IMPACT STATEMENT) A young mum has spoken of the lasting trauma she says she lives with every day after a violent assault left her partially blind in one eye.Despite trying to rebuild her life and embrace motherhood, she says the fear has never gone away.
“I’ve never been the same since,” she said.
“The assault left me half blind in one eye, and every single day I’m reminded of what happened.
It isn’t just the physical injury—it’s the emotional scars that stay with you.” Court papers show the man was charged with a course of domestic abusive behaviour, including allegations of physical violence, verbal abuse and coercive and controlling behaviour.
Now, as his reported release from prison approaches in October, she says the anxiety she has worked so hard to manage is returning.
“What scares me the most is that he’ll do it again.
Even while he’s been in prison, he’s still tried to contact me.
Victim Support has been helping me deal with the fear, but knowing he’s due to be released makes that worry feel very real.” She says becoming a mum has given her a new purpose, but the memories of the attack remain impossible to escape.
“I just want to move on with my life and focus on raising my child.
But not a day goes by where I don’t think about what could have happened.” She credits her friends with saving her from what she fears could have been a far worse outcome.
“If my friends hadn’t been there that day, I don’t even want to think about what could have happened to me.” She hopes speaking out will encourage other victims of domestic abuse to seek help and remind people that the effects of abuse don’t end when a prison sentence begins.
“The injuries heal as much as they can, but the fear stays with you.
That’s something many people never see.” Jamie Boyd, a resident of Edinburgh, has been sentenced to a total of 20 and a half months in prison for a series of domestic abuse offences.
The charges included physical violence, verbal abuse, and coercive and controlling behaviour.
The court heard disturbing details of Boyd's abusive conduct, which spanned multiple incidents.
In one particularly harrowing case, he left his victim unconscious and covered in bruises in the middle of a street — a chilling example of the level of violence involved.
Prosecutors described Boyd’s actions as both calculated and persistent, noting the psychological toll inflicted on his victim.
The sentence reflects the seriousness with which the courts are treating domestic abuse cases, particularly when patterns of manipulation and violence are involved.
Boyd's conviction serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting victims of domestic abuse and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
