JAMES WADHAWAN

James Wadhawan has been sentenced for sexual offences committed against a teenage girl in Lancing.

Wadhawan, aged 35 and residing on Penalverne Crescent in Penzance, was issued a Child Abduction Warning Notice (CAWN) in January 2024 after reports emerged of inappropriate interactions with a teenager.

On 9 March 2024, police received information that Wadhawan was seen with the victim in Lancing.

Authorities approached the girl and her family for inquiries, leading to Wadhawan’s arrest later that evening.

He was subsequently released on bail under strict conditions pending further investigation.

On 13 March 2024, law enforcement officers located Wadhawan with the girl again, this time on a bridge in Lancing, resulting in his re-arrest.

He faced charges including two counts of engaging in penetrative sexual acts with a girl aged 13 to 15, as well as a child abduction charge, and was remanded into custody.

At Lewes Crown Court, Wadhawan admitted guilt to all charges on 12 May.

Later, on 1 July at Hove Trial Centre, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison, ordered to stay away from the victim through an indefinite restraining order, and will remain on the sex offender register for life.

Detective Chief Inspector Mehdi Fallahi commented, “James Wadhawan is a dangerous predator who targeted a young girl for his personal gratification.” “He also praised the bravery and resilience of the victim and her family during the investigation, which was crucial in securing his conviction.

He also acknowledged Investigator Sophie Williams for her thorough work.” Fallahi concluded, “Sussex Police remains dedicated to safeguarding women and girls, working closely with partners to combat grooming and exploitation of young people.”
