EX-RADIO DJ JAMES RUSSELL CONVICTED OF CHILD ABUSE IN GLASGOW
A former radio DJ, James Russell, 56, of Govanhill, Glasgow, was convicted of using lewd and libidinous practices towards a girl aged 10 to 11 between November 2009 and November 2010.He was also found guilty of sexually assaulting her multiple times from December 2010 to March 2010, taking indecent photographs of her, possessing indecent images of children, and sexual pictures of humans and animals.
The court heard that Russell had confessed online under the username 'Peter.fyle' to abusing the girl and expressed a desire to molest her whenever he saw her in her school uniform.
A woman, suspicious of his profile on a swingers website, set up a fake profile which led to online conversations where Russell revealed his fantasies, describing how he 'can't resist' the child and expressed that he was 'especially turned on' by 8 to 14-year-olds.
He also changed his profile picture to an image of the girl in her school uniform.
Russell's online chats included him referring to himself as a 'borderline paedo' and discussing his 'illegal' collection of pornography.
After the evidence was handed to police, Russell denied any sexual abuse of the child but was ultimately convicted.
The sheriff deferred sentencing until the next month and placed him on the sex offenders' register.
