EDGWARE MAN JAILED FOR FRENZIED ATTACK ON GIRLFRIEND
A 35-year-old man from Berridge Green, Edgware, named James Richardson, was involved in a brutal assault that nearly resulted in his girlfriend, Natalia Czekaj, being decapitated.
Richardson pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, with the prosecution acknowledging his alcoholism as a medical condition that significantly diminished his responsibility for the act.
The incident took place at their residence during a New Year celebration, ending with Czekaj succumbing to multiple stab wounds.
An officer from the Metropolitan Police described the case as "tragic" and characterized the attack as "frenzied." Richardson’s defense attorney said that his client, although unable to remember the killing, felt genuine remorse and shock.
He was sentenced to six years in prison, along with a five-year extended licence period which will involve supervision and support for his alcohol dependency.
The judge remarked that Czekaj was "an innocent victim of your rage" and pointed out the violent nature of the crime, driven by alcohol dependence.
