INVERNESS MAN ASHAMED AFTER SUPERMARKET BRAWL LEAVES VICTIM FRACTURED
A man involved in an assault on his partner’s ex at Morrisons supermarket in Millburn Road, Inverness, has expressed remorse and guilt for his actions.James Potter, 30, admitted to fighting with the man, which resulted in injuries including fractures and bruising.
The incident unfolded when Potter’s partner called on him for support during an interaction with her ex, which turned hostile.
According to court reports, Potter initially stayed out of the altercation, but when the situation escalated, both men exchanged punches.
Potter then punched the victim repeatedly in the head and body, pushed him against railings, pinned him against trolleys, and also pushed him against the trolleys during the fight.
The victim sustained visible injuries, specifically bruising and fractures.
Potter, who appeared in Inverness Sheriff Court, accepted that his actions were provoked, and his solicitor described him as someone who has "a lot going for him" and expressed that both parties behaved in an undignified manner.
The court was told that the incident was spontaneous, occurring "in the heat of the moment"—a statement supported by Potter’s solicitor.
During the hearing, Potter was sentenced to a community payback order, which required him to complete 120 hours of unpaid work within six months.
The sheriff highlighted that both individuals had been processed and now carry convictions, but recognized Potter’s remorse and shame for his conduct.
