MAN JAILED AFTER SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON FORMER PARTNERS
A man has received a prison sentence after committing serious sexual offenses against two former partners.James Nolan, who previously lived in Belper, targeted the women while they were sleeping.
He forcibly raped and sexually assaulted the first woman in her Derby home.
She was in a drowsy state during the early morning hours when she became aware that Nolan was assaulting her.
Their relationship had ended one week prior to the incident.
The second victim, another woman Nolan had been dating afterward, woke up to find him sexually assaulting her at her Derby residence.
She broke off their relationship immediately following the assault.
Both assaults occurred two years apart, and each woman reported the incidents independently to the police shortly after they happened.
Nolan, aged 30, was summoned to court in relation to the first woman’s allegations, facing charges of rape and sexual assault.
While awaiting trial on those charges, he committed the second assault.
Nolan was arrested for this offence and charged with sexual assault by penetration, leading to his detention in police custody.
At a court hearing the following day, Nolan denied the charges but was granted bail pending trial.
In November 2025, Nolan appeared in court and admitted to the rape of the first woman, as well as sexual assault counts involving both victims.
On 20 April this year, Derby Crown Court sentenced Nolan to 10.5 years in prison.
He was also ordered to stay indefinitely away from both women and is required to register with police on a permanent basis.
