Edinburgh, Scotland — A man named James Mckenzie is currently under intense public scrutiny after videos and audio recordings surfaced online allegedly showing him abusing his pet dog. The disturbing content, widely circulated across social media platforms, has prompted an ongoing investigation by Scottish animal welfare authorities.
The videos appear to show Mckenzie shouting, swearing, and vandalizing a property while a visibly distressed dog is present. In one clip, he is allegedly seen holding the dog in a chokehold. Additionally, audio recordings shared among family friends via WhatsApp reportedly capture the sound of the dog yelping in distress, with Mckenzie believed to be physically reprimanding the animal.
The dog has since been removed from Mckenzie’s care by authorities. Welfare assessments conducted post-removal identified several serious concerns, including:
• Failure to seek veterinary treatment for the animal
• Failure to provide a suitable, balanced diet, leading to issues with weight gain
• Failure to ensure a clean and hygienic living environment
• General neglect of the dog’s welfare, possibly resulting in unnecessary suffering
If proven, these actions would represent serious breaches under Section 19(2)(a) and (b) of the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006, which prohibits causing unnecessary suffering and neglecting the basic needs of animals in one’s care.
The situation has triggered public outcry, with many calling for swift legal action and tougher penalties for animal abuse. Officials urge anyone with additional information to contact the Scottish SPCA or Police Scotland.
