ALTON PENSIONER JAMES MCKELL FACES PRISON AFTER ADMITTING TO CHILD ABUSE CHARGES
James McKell, an 81-year-old resident of Ackender Road in Alton, is potentially facing a custodial sentence following his admission to multiple historic child abuse allegations.The case was heard at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, where McKell pleaded guilty to a total of nine charges related to the abuse of minors.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that McKell confessed to engaging in seven separate instances of non-penetrative sexual activity with a boy under the age of 16.
These incidents reportedly took place at an address in Alton during the 2000s, a period during which the abuse occurred.
In addition to these charges, McKell also admitted to two counts of sexually assaulting a male, with the offences occurring in both Alton and Four Marks, also within the same timeframe.
The court acknowledged that McKell was previously regarded as a person of good character, which makes the breach of trust all the more significant.
The proceedings also noted that pre-sentence reports are currently being prepared to assess his background and the appropriate level of sentencing.
As part of his bail conditions, McKell has been released on a conditional basis, which requires him to avoid any contact with individuals under the age of 18, including the complainant, who has been legally protected from identification.
