INVERNESS MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER TERRORISING PARTNER WITH ABUSE COURSE
An Inverness man named James Lane, aged 33, was involved in a series of abusive behaviors towards his former partner, including physical and emotional abuse. The article reports that he pursued her into the street when she tried to escape, and his actions included striking her with a glass causing a head injury, shouting, swearing, uttering offensive remarks, and throwing her mobile phone against a wall, breaking it.
He then chased her out of a house, dragged her out of a car, and repeatedly threatened to harm himself in her presence.
All of these incidents occurred between March and September of the previous year at various locations in Inverness.
The court heard that Lane was on bail for prior offenses when he committed these acts.
A court hearing indicated that the glass incident was triggered after an argument while socialising at a friend's house.
During the hearing, it was revealed that Lane had lashed out at a table, which resulted in the glass hitting the woman on the head and causing a cut.
He initially faced a deferred sentence pending a background report and assessment for a rehabilitation program for male domestic abusers.
Ultimately, Lane was placed under a two-year supervision order that includes 140 hours of community work and participation in the Caledonian men's program.
Despite his behavior, he avoided a custody sentence for his course of abuse.
