JAMES KIPPS-BOLTON CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ABUSE IN LEAMINGTON
A 38-year-old man named James Kipps-Bolton has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a young woman in Leamington. The incident took place after he lured her to his flat under false pretenses, taking advantage of her intoxicated state when she was unable to give clear consent. The events unfolded outside a popular nightclub in Leamington, where the victim, a young woman from Coventry in her late teens, was visibly distressed and seeking help. Kipps-Bolton approached her and offered assistance, claiming he wanted to help her get home safely. However, instead of providing genuine aid, he manipulated her vulnerable state to commit a serious sexual offense.According to reports, the following morning, the young woman awoke in Kipps-Bolton’s bed, completely naked and confused about what had transpired. She quickly left his residence, overwhelmed and uncertain about her experience. At the time, she was undergoing treatment for depression, which was complicated by recent changes to her prescribed medication, and she had been drinking alcohol that evening. Recognizing the distress and confusion, she later contacted the police and sought help from a sexual assault referral centre. During the investigation, authorities uncovered disturbing evidence: Kipps-Bolton had recorded the assault on his phone and had visited websites related to sleeping women and sexual activity involving unconscious individuals. These revelations painted a troubling picture of his motives and intentions.
Kipps-Bolton attempted to defend himself by claiming that the woman had consented to sex and had pretended to be asleep, but the jury dismissed these assertions. The case was brought before Warwick Crown Court, where a jury deliberated for just two hours and forty minutes before returning a majority verdict of 10-2 in favor of conviction. The court sentenced Kipps-Bolton to nine years in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life. During the sentencing, Recorder Martin Butterworth delivered a stern judgment, stating, “You saw a sexual opportunity for yourself. I reject the submission that you at any time wanted to help this young woman, and I reject the submission that your offence was opportunistic. You got this young woman into your basement flat. At no time did she flirt with you or make any sexual advances; she was unconscious in your bed. You have a fetish involving sleeping women, and you took the opportunity to act out that fetish, filming her as you did so.”
The victim has been left with lasting mental scars, painfully aware of her vulnerability and the betrayal she experienced. Kipps-Bolton’s actions were driven by disturbing sexual fetishes, and justice has been served through his conviction and sentencing. His misconduct has caused significant trauma to the young woman, highlighting the importance of accountability in cases of sexual assault.
