HIGHLAND RAPIST FACES LONG PRISON TERM AFTER DEVASTATING ATTACKS
A man named James Inglis, aged 34, who committed a series of disturbing sexual attacks, is now facing a long prison sentence.Over a nine-month period in 2012, he carried out multiple assaults in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, and Beauly, Inverness-shire.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Inglis raped one woman and sexually assaulted two others during this period.
One victim, a 22-year-old woman, was raped at an address in Beauly between March 22 and March 27, 2012.
Another woman was sexually abused while she was asleep and unable to give consent at her residence in Stornoway.
Inglis also attempted to strangulate one victim severely, pushing her against a door and holding a knife to her while trying to undress her, which endangered her life.
The jury found enough evidence to convict him after a week-long trial.
He claimed innocence but was found guilty of serious sexual offenses.
The judge, Lord Pentland, indicated that a custodial sentence was inevitable due to the nature of the crimes, which reflected a deplorable attitude towards women.
Inglis, originally from Stornoway but now residing in Lancashire, has previous convictions for dishonesty and housebreaking and was ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
The court has deferred sentencing for reports on his character and mental health, with sentencing scheduled for September 30, 2015.
