BIRMINGHAM ABUSER TOLD DETECTIVE 'LET'S PLAY A GAME' AFTER THREATENING WOMAN WITH MACHETE
A Birmingham abuser who invited a detective to play a cat-and-mouse 'game' has been locked up after threatening a woman with a machete in her own home.
James Guest broke into the victim's home last July after a campaign of abuse.
Guest, 24, threatened the victim with the blade and then told a lead detective to 'play a game' in finding him when they spoke on the phone.
Despite initially denying any wrongdoing, Guest pleaded guilty to several offences after detectives built a case against him.
Guest, of Rocky Lane in Birmingham, pleaded guilty to breaching a non-molestation order, threatening a person with a bladed article in a private place and threatening to share photograph or film of person in an intimate state.
He was jailed for two years and five months for his abusive campaign at Warwick Crown Court on March 2.
Det Con Baylie Cairns, of Warwickshire Police, said: “When we first interviewed Guest, he tried to lie and manipulate his way out of being held to account.
“He abandoned his attempt to deny any wrongdoing when, thanks to the victim’s bravery, he was confronted with reams of evidence of his appalling, abusive behaviour.
“Guest is clearly a danger to women and we welcome this sentence.” The force said: "A brave victim’s testimony has seen a man jailed for a campaign of abuse and threats, which culminated in his breaking into her house and threatening her.
"The court heard how James Guest, 24, of Rocky Lane in Birmingham, had repeatedly abused the victim before breaking into her house in July last year brandishing a machete.
"Guest spoke with the detective leading the case on the phone inviting her to ‘play a game’ in finding him, and when he was arrested he tried to deny any wrongdoing.
He was remanded in custody and such a strong case was built against him that he pleaded guilty to breaching a non-molestation order, threatening a person with a bladed article in a private place, threatening to share photograph or film of person in an intimate state.
And at Warwick Crown Court on March 2, he was jailed for two years and five months."
