GATESHEAD MAN JAILED FOR RAPE AFTER SELF-REPORT AND GUILTY VERDICT
A man named James Gregory, aged 32, was convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison for a serious sexual assault.
According to court reports, Gregory called police shortly after attacking a woman and openly admitted to the assault, stating he had "pretty much raped" her with "unconsented" intercourse.
Despite his confession, he later denied the rape, claiming he had made a false confession, but the jury found him guilty.
The court heard that the victim was left feeling "angry, confused and dirty" following the attack.
Gregory, who resides on Newbolt Court in Gateshead, was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.
