PENSIONER CONVICTED FOR ABUSING WOMAN WITH LEARNING DIFFICULTIES
A pensioner named James Allan, aged 66 and from Forres, Moray, has admitted to crimes related to the sexual abuse and exploitation of a woman with learning difficulties in Inverness-shire.During a court hearing at the High Court in Glasgow, it was revealed that Allan engaged in sexual acts without consent from the woman, who was incapable of giving such consent.
He also took indecent photographs of her over a period spanning from October 1, 2011, to November 20, 2015, at her home, where he visited approximately once a week and would call her at 4pm to arrange visits.
The prosecutor, Gillian Ross, stated that Allan would go upstairs to the bedroom upon his arrival or instruct the woman to go there, and the abuse occurred during these visits.
The incident came to police attention after a support worker voiced concerns.
The woman reported feeling sick and dirty and expressed fear that Allan might return, suffering from flashbacks, nightmares, and waking up thinking he was in her bed.
Allan was aware of her learning difficulties and had described her disparagingly to his partner as “no right and had no one looking after her.” The court remanded Allan in custody, deferred sentencing to next month, and he was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders’ register.
Detective Inspector Donald MacDonald condemned his actions, emphasizing the victim’s bravery in coming forward and reaffirming the police's commitment to investigating all sexual abuse reports regardless of when they occurred.
The court's decision included remanding James Allan, with a future sentencing date set, and he was registered as a sex offender.
