SOUTHAMPTON LGBTQ+ ADVOCATE AND SEX OFFENDER BREACHED COURT ORDER
A prominent LGBTQ+ advocate, who is a sex offender, has admitted to breaching a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) as the charity he alleges to have founded claims he has overstated his involvement.Jake Radwell, 42, of Kent Street, Southampton, has claimed to have worked for years in the city advocating for LGBTQ+ as part of People's Pride Southampton.
However, since before its inception as a community group in 2019, Radwell has been a registered sex offender, with the charity saying it washed its hands of him almost immediately.
Radwell's most recent breach concerns a party he attended on April 12, 2025, in Southampton.
A child was present, whose parent was unaware of Radwell's status as a sex offender, which is a breach of the order.
He appeared in court wearing a red hoodie and spoke only to confirm his name and to enter his guilty plea.
The case was prosecuted by James Kellam.
David Storry, mitigating, told the court that Radwell had assumed that others at the party, who were aware of his sex offender status, had told the parent; this was not the case.
He added: "The party was kept on CCTV, he was never unsupervised, and of course, he has pleaded guilty." A spokesperson for People's Pride Southampton says he was swiftly removed in 2019 after his conviction came to light, and he has been overstating his involvement, including being a spokesperson and chairman for years after.
He appeared at Southampton Crown Court yesterday, February 3, to admit to breaching the SHPO, which had originally been made on April 10, 2017.
When People's Pride Southampton was briefly incorporated for just over a year as People's Pride Soton CIC on June 19, 2023, Radwell was listed as one of its directors.
A spokesperson for People's Pride Southampton has rebuffed his involvement and said the CIC was created without its knowledge.
Radwell has claimed to multiple media sources to be the founder and chairman of People's Pride, including to the BBC in 2022 in an article in which he struck out at Southampton City Council for issuing a monkeypox safety warning ahead of Pride celebrations.
He was also a co-signatory on People's Pride's behalf on a public letter opposing the far-right group Britain First in 2023, claimed to be the organiser of Pride In The Park as late as 2022, and sent a press release in 2024 with pictures publicising that year's event.
In 2024, he helped organise Southampton Global Fusion, which is a group launched by trustees of Edmund Kell to work with cultural community groups in Southampton.
When asked why his claims of being a spokesperson had not been rebuffed by People's Pride at the time, a spokesperson said they did not want to seem like they were 'steamrolling' him.
A spokesperson said: "He no longer has involvement and hasn't since being dismissed, although we do often get told he is out and about taking to people on our behalf, which we like to make absolutely clear he has nothing or will have anything to do with us."
