CONTROLLING EX-SPOUSE DAMAGES HOME IN REVENGE ATTACK
A controlling man named Jake Moorhouse used a metal pole to damage his ex's house after discovering another man there. The victim had ended the relationship following Moorhouse's increasing paranoia and installation of a camera to monitor her movements.
She feared he might force his way into her address in Lockwood, leading her to hide in a room during the incident.
Moorhouse admitted to the court that he saw red and became angry, and he indicated he has since paid for the damages to be repaired.
During the court hearing at Kirklees Magistrates' Court, prosecutor Vicky Trueman revealed that the couple were together for two years and share a child, describing how Moorhouse's initial caring behavior deteriorated into paranoia.
She detailed how he followed her online after their breakup, sending messages and attempting to call her which she ignored.
The following day, Moorhouse arrived at her home and began kicking the door, threw a chair from a neighbor's garden, smashed a CD rack, hit a window with a metal pole, and kicked the front door.
The incident lasted approximately ten minutes, during which she was very scared he would come inside and attack her.
Moorhouse, of Longley Road in Almondbury, pleaded guilty to criminal damage.
Deputy District Judge David Scanlon emphasized the seriousness of the assault and warned Moorhouse about the importance of not repeating such behavior, especially in front of their child, to prevent the child from thinking such conduct is normal.
As a result, Moorhouse received a 12-month conditional discharge, avoiding a formal punishment provided he stays out of trouble for the year, and was ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
