MAN ADMITS HORRIFIC ATTACK ON PARTNER IN LOCKWOOD ICE CREAM PARLOUR
A man named Dean Collins carried out a horrific assault on his partner inside an ice cream shop. The victim was so frightened during the attack at Dixon's Milk Ices in Lockwood that she lost control and wetted herself.
Dean Collins, aged 40, has admitted to the assault and faces potential imprisonment.
The incident was described as dreadful by a district judge.
Collins pleaded guilty to charges of assault by beating and resisting arrest of a police officer.
Court details reveal that the assault took place on July 4 of the previous year inside the Swan Lane shop.
Prosecutor Natalie Chapman stated that CCTV footage showed Collins appearing to spit at his partner, causing her to recoil.
He then left but returned shortly after, pointing his finger at her before punching her in the face.
He then grabbed her face with his hands, trying to drag her to the floor.
Collins departed but returned again as staff called police and he continued to behave aggressively.
The victim suffered soreness and was so frightened by his behaviour that she wet herself.
When police arrived, he resisted arrest by locking his arms, making it difficult to handcuff him.
Collins then flailed and kicked during his attempted detention, forcing officers to take him to the ground.
The Deputy District Judge, John Maxwell, mentioned Collins has issues with alcohol and needs to be assessed for possible treatment.
He also ordered the CCTV footage of the incident to be available for sentencing purposes.
Collins is scheduled for sentencing on February 7 and was granted unconditional bail in the meantime.
The judge remarked, "It sounds a horrendous matter.
You pleaded guilty to these offences and you will get full credit for that.
This seems like a matter at the top end of the scale of common assault." The court emphasized that CCTV footage must be accessible during sentencing.
