EX-MET OFFICER JAILED FOR 16 YEARS FOR RAPE AND ABUSE
A former Metropolitan Police constable named Jake Cummings has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after being found guilty of multiple serious offenses, including rape, coercive and controlling behaviour, voyeurism, and stalking, involving three women.Cummings, 26, of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, who previously served as a special constable in Dorset when attacking the first woman and as a police officer in London during offenses against the other two women, was involved in a pattern of abuse over nearly five years.
The trials at St Albans Crown Court revealed that he maintained separate relationships with the women.
The judge, Bilal Siddique, described the behaviour as "nothing other than a campaign of abuse." During sentencing, the judge emphasized that Cummings abused his position as a police officer to control his victims and that his actions were not impulsive.
The court considered him "dangerous" and a risk to the public, stating he must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before parole could be considered.
Cummings was convicted of offenses against three women, with not all rape allegations reaching verdicts initially, but after a retrial, he was found guilty of two counts of rape.
The police investigation was prompted after a victim reported in February 2024, leading to full disclosure from the other victims.
Victim statements read in court conveyed the profound psychological impact of his actions, including depression, loss of control, feelings of fear, and frustration at his lack of remorse.
His defence acknowledged his guilt and stated that he would take steps to improve himself in prison, noting his young age and his father's tragic death by suicide.
The police and prosecutors described Cummings's conduct as a "vile pattern of abuse" that persisted even after the relationships ended, illustrating a systematic abuse of power and control.
The case underscores the importance of holding abusers accountable, regardless of their previous roles or social status.
