JACK TOMLINSON SENTENCED IN BURNLEY AND KEIGHLEY FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST SCHOOLGIRLS
In April 2014, a man with ties to both Burnley and Keighley was handed a significant prison sentence after being convicted of multiple sexual offences involving underage girls from the local area.Jack Tomlinson, aged 24 and residing on Stanley Road in Keighley, faced justice in Burnley Crown Court following a series of disturbing allegations and subsequent legal proceedings.
Tomlinson had pleaded guilty to nine counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor, and during the trial, a jury found him guilty of an additional two charges related to similar offences.
The court was informed by prosecutor Mark Savill that the mother of one of the victims had grown increasingly suspicious of her daughter’s interactions with Tomlinson.
Despite her concerns and attempts to question her daughter, the girl initially denied any inappropriate contact had taken place.
However, the situation escalated when the girl left school early without permission, visibly upset and in tears.
It was then revealed that Tomlinson had been persistently messaging her through social media platforms, sending numerous messages that alarmed her mother and prompted police involvement.
When authorities arrested Tomlinson, he admitted to touching the girl on “four or five occasions,” claiming that he believed he was in love with her.
The court was also told that Tomlinson continued his offending behavior even after being released on bail, demonstrating a troubling disregard for the law and the safety of the young girls involved.
During the hearing, Tomlinson’s defense attorney, Kathryn Johnson, highlighted that her client was a man of previously good character who had never served time in prison.
She requested that the judge consider imposing a suspended sentence, emphasizing that Tomlinson was a father of two and that such a sentence would not be a lenient option but rather a chance for rehabilitation, contingent upon him completing certain courses.
However, the presiding judge, Andrew Woolman, was clear in his judgment.
He stated that Tomlinson should have known that engaging in sexual activity with minors was fundamentally wrong and that his actions were illegal.
Judge Woolman expressed disappointment that Tomlinson had continued his misconduct despite the legal consequences, indicating that he had shown little regard for the law or the well-being of the victims.
Recognizing the complexity of the case, the judge acknowledged the positive character references but emphasized the seriousness of the offences.
The sentence handed down included a 10-year sexual offences prevention order and an order for Tomlinson to register as a sex offender indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance and swift legal action in protecting vulnerable young girls from predatory behavior, and it serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who violate the law in such heinous ways.
