OFFENDER JACK PURVES JAILED FOR SUBWAY RAPE IN NEWCASTLE
Cross Heath rapist Jack Purves was serving an extended 13-year prison sentence after a horrific attack on a woman in a Newcastle subway.
The incident occurred when the 21-year-old, who had previously received a suspended sentence for a sexual assault, followed a woman in the subway between Lower Street and Friars Street after her night out at the Revolution bar.
He attempted to kiss her, but she was uncomfortable and tried to push him away.
Despite this, he followed her, knocked her to the ground, and during the assault, degraded her by calling her derogatory names like 'slag', 'slut', and 'bitch'.
He then forcibly raped her, injuring her head and leaving her mentally scarred.
The victim managed to escape and sought help at the Revolution club.
Purves was quickly arrested, with his discarded jacket and the woman's phone found in his possession.
He pleaded guilty to the rape charge.
The court heard that he was under the influence of vodka and crack cocaine at the time of the attack.
Judge Paul Glenn labeled him a dangerous offender, highlighting the violent and degrading nature of his actions.
He was sentenced to eight and a half years in custody plus four and a half years on license, making him a lifetime registrant on the sex offenders’ register and barred from activities involving children and vulnerable adults.
Purves will be eligible for parole after serving two-thirds of his sentence.
