SOUTHAMPTON SCOUTMASTER JACK JONES JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE
A man who served as a Scoutmaster in Southampton during the late 1980s and early 1990s has been sentenced to nine years in prison for sexual offences against boys.Jack Jones, formerly known as Eamond Tallon, was convicted of multiple counts of sexual abuse involving three victims, with two of the boys being residents at a children’s home in Thorold Road, Southampton, which has since closed.
His offenses were part of Operation Marmion, a police review focused on non-recent child sexual exploitation cases.
Jones admitted his guilt, which prevented the need for a trial, and was sentenced to nine years behind bars.
Additionally, he was ordered to be registered as a sex offender for life.
The court heard that Jones’s abuses, which involved victims aged between 11 and 13, constituted a breach of trust, especially given his role in safeguarding the children at the home.
Stuart Murdoch, his co-accused, was convicted of five counts of sexual offences against another boy at a different Southampton location, and received a sentence of five years in prison.
Murdoch, who resides in Tankerville Road, Southampton, was found guilty after denying all allegations but was convicted by the jury.
Investigations into these abuses highlight the importance of justice for victims of historic child exploitation, with police urging anyone with information or victims of similar abuse to contact them via local police or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
