TEEN ASSAULTED IN HIS OWN HOME OVER LONG FAMILY FEUD, OFFENDER AVOIDS JAIL
A man named Jack Drummond was involved in an assault on a 17-year-old in his own home, which was motivated by a long-standing family feud that has persisted for multiple generations. The court heard that Drummond entered the victim’s house around 11 pm on March 30 of the previous year and threatened to kill him, stating: “I’m going to murder you.” He then physically assaulted the teenager by punching him in the face and grabbing his collar, before ordering another individual to stab the boy.
The victim fled into his mother’s bedroom, where he sustained further injuries while attempting to de-escalate the situation.
The assault concluded with the victim escaping his home to seek refuge nearby.
Police later located Drummond on Rosehaugh Road, visibly intoxicated.
Drummond, aged 19, pleaded guilty to charges of assault and assault causing injury, and had also breached previous court conditions by being found outside the victim’s residence at a later date.
His solicitor explained that the assault was fuelled by an ongoing familial conflict that had been escalating through text message exchanges before and after the incident, with Drummond acknowledging that he was under the influence when he committed these acts.
As a sentence, the court decided not to imprison him but instead imposed a community payback order including one year of supervision and 150 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, Drummond was ordered to complete an offending awareness program.
