The court was told she poured a bowl of cereal over the victim before throwing it at him, which resulted in injuries to his head.During a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, police reports revealed that ambulance services took the victim to the Royal Gwent Hospital, where a large head wound was observed.
The victim informed paramedics that Meteva had caused the injury.
The court heard that she had been in a relationship with the victim for three years, but her behavior had become physically abusive since they moved in together. In her police interview, Meteva accepted responsibility for her actions and pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent.
She explained she took the victim to the hospital and intended to pick him up later, admitting she "let emotions get the better of her" and did not mean for it to happen. The judge, Recorder David Warner, noted Meteva's pattern of abuse, including frequent arguments and instances where she would lock the victim out of the house and make him sleep in the car.
He remarked, "[The bowl] might not seem like a weapon to many people but in this case, it was, and it smashed.
It caused a nasty injury."She was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
Additionally, she was ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement. If you or someone you know is affected by domestic abuse, support is available through the Live Fear Free website or helpline at 0808 80 10 800.
