ISMAIL DEHDOUH CASE: WOMAN DENIED COMPENSATION IN CITY DUE TO AGE-OLD LAW
A woman who was repeatedly sexually assaulted as a child by her father has been denied financial compensation because of a legal loophole.Alissa, who endured abuse by her father from the age of seven, was refused a payout because of regulations established before 1979 that bar victims living with their attacker from claiming.
Her sister Denise might still be eligible to apply.
Victims and advocacy groups have criticized the law, arguing that it unfairly penalizes those who suffered severe childhood abuse at the hands of family members.
