IOAN CAMPEANU SENTENCED TO LIFE IN LJUBLJANA AFTER BRUTAL NEASDEN MURDER OF PREGNANT PARTNER

Ioan Campeanu, aged 44, was convicted of the murder of his heavily pregnant girlfriend, Andra Hilitanu, in a violent assault that took place last June in Neasden. The judge described the attack as "prolonged and brutal," involving Campeanu stabbing Hilitanu with a pair of scissors. At the time, Ms. Hilitanu was 30 weeks pregnant and was discovered dead at the scene, bearing 40 stab wounds—including four to the neck—as well as other injuries caused by blunt force.

Campeanu initially denied killing her but was eventually found guilty at the Old Bailey. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 26 years for the murder, alongside a concurrent 14-year sentence for the destruction of their unborn child. During the incident, Campeanu made an emergency call in which he admitted to the killing, claiming that his drug use contributed to his actions.

The judge described her death as "horrible," highlighting that Ms. Hilitanu suffered alone, far from her home country, and condemned the attack as showing "no mercy."
