2008: MAN ON SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER IS JAILED AGAIN - COURT
A 20-year-old man on the sex offenders' register has been sentenced to jail after failing to inform authorities about his change of residence.Ian Macdonald, who was required to sign the sex offenders' register in 2006 following a conviction for indecent exposure, will serve a week in prison due to his failure to notify police that he was no longer residing at St Paul's Hostel in Worcester.
During a hearing at Worcester Magistrates Court on Monday, Prosecutor Douglas Marshall explained that Macdonald, who is currently serving another prison sentence, left the hostel after an unspecified "incident".
In a police interview, Macdonald acknowledged he knew he was obliged to report any change of address, but he admitted to being 'all over the place' since leaving St Paul's.
He expressed concern that not having a fixed address might result in him being returned to prison.
Defence lawyer Barry Newton presented a letter from Macdonald, who has family ties in Worcestershire and Bristol but is now separated from them.
Newton stated that Macdonald only encountered these issues after relocating to Worcester.
The court accepted Macdonald’s guilty plea, sentencing him to seven days in jail, to be served consecutively with his existing sentence.
