COVENTRY MAN SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS FOR RAPE AND FALSE IMPRISONMENT
A man from Coventry, known as Ian Hogan and also by the name Ian Flannery, originally from Ireland, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison following serious sexual offences.
Hogan had a relationship with a woman in her 30s, and in an argument in February 2021, he assaulted her violently by punching her and pulling her hair to prevent her from leaving his house.
During this incident, he also subjected her to ongoing and threatening sexual acts, during which he confiscated her mobile phone and car keys.
The woman managed to leave the next morning.
She later reported the incident, revealing that Hogan had assaulted her on two prior occasions over a five-month period.
Hogan was detained on March 1, 2021, and held in custody.
At Warwick Crown Court, he was convicted on May 18 of several charges, including rape, three counts of assault, sexual assault, causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, and false imprisonment.
The court sentenced him to 13 years and imposed a restraining order lasting until 2077.
Detective Constable Paul Ballard commended the victim's bravery and urged others experiencing domestic abuse to seek assistance.
