HOSIEN NEDJAD: DANGEROUS NEWCASTLE SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO PRISON AND LIKELY DEPORTED
A notorious serial sex attacker operating within the city centre of Newcastle has been officially branded a significant threat to public safety and has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term. Hosien Nedjad, whose criminal activities span nearly a decade, has a disturbing history of sexually and physically assaulting women during nights out in Newcastle, despite being on the sex offenders register. His latest conviction follows a particularly heinous incident involving a young woman in 2019, which has brought renewed attention to his pattern of predatory behavior. In 2019, the victim was inside Soho Room, a popular nightclub located on Mosley Street in Newcastle. She was reportedly intoxicated and separated from her friends when Nedjad was present in the same venue. According to court proceedings, the assault began when Nedjad took advantage of her vulnerable state. Prosecutor Philip Morley detailed the attack, stating: "He took the opportunity to put his hand, initially, down the front of her jeans and started to grab at her. She asked him not to and tried to push his hands away. However at this point he grabbed her arms and pushed her forward onto the bar and pulled her jeans further down."
Following the assault, the victim was left crying and visibly distressed. Forensic analysis later confirmed Nedjad's involvement through DNA evidence found on her clothing. The woman has since spoken about the profound impact of the attack, describing her ongoing struggles with anxiety, sleep disturbances, and flashbacks. She expressed that her trauma feels like a prison within her own mind, raising concerns about her sense of safety in everyday life.
Despite his long history of offending, Nedjad managed to evade justice for over three years by fleeing to Germany. His prior convictions include a series of violent and sexual assaults dating back to 2011. In that year, he assaulted four women at Beyond bar, where he punched one victim and then attacked her friends. Two years later, in 2013, he assaulted two women at the Magic Flame takeaway, punching them during the incident. The following year, in 2014, he committed a sexual assault in Newcastle city centre, pushing a woman against railings and attempting to pull her pants down despite her protests. This assault led to his being placed on the sex offenders register for seven years.
Further investigations uncovered additional offenses, including a sexual assault at Popworld, where he lifted a woman's dress while his trousers were unbuttoned. His criminal record also includes a conviction for the Soho Room attack, which was carried out in his absence after he fled to Germany. Upon his return to the UK, Nedjad pleaded guilty to a Bail Act offence. The court subsequently sentenced him to four years in prison, with an extended license period of four more years, and mandated that he sign the sex offenders register for life.
Judge Edward Bindloss described Nedjad as a significant danger and a dangerous offender, emphasizing his repeated targeting of women in nightlife settings and his pattern of physical and sexual violence despite victims' protests. The judge also highlighted Nedjad's status as a failed asylum seeker, suggesting that deportation is likely once his sentence is served. Defense lawyer Andrew Walker argued that Nedjad is remorseful and has not consumed alcohol for over three years, portraying him as a capable and hardworking individual. However, the court's verdict underscores the serious threat he poses to the community and the need for ongoing supervision and protection.
