SOUTHAMPTON MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING AND ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR TOWARDS EX-PARTNER
A Southampton man has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison after being convicted for ongoing abuse and controlling behavior towards his ex-partner.Hoshmand Ahmadpoor pleaded guilty to coercive control at Southampton Crown Court.
He also admitted to two counts of assault and criminal damage against his 28-year-old ex-girlfriend.
The court heard that his behavior included using threats of violence to control his partner during disagreements and bullying her into withdrawing a police complaint.
It was revealed that in June, Ahmadpoor held the woman’s throat during an argument, and in September, he restrained her with a knife to her throat at his home and damaged a door.
Fortunately, the woman did not sustain serious injuries.
The court described his actions as 'relentless abuse,' and he was sentenced for his conduct that caused significant harm to the victim, who bravely came forward to police.
Detective Constable Hollie Cartwright praised her courage and emphasized that coercive and controlling behavior is a serious crime that often goes unrecognized without the bravery of victims.
The court’s decision and the conviction aim to emphasize that Hampshire Constabulary is committed to tackling domestic abuse and protecting victims.
