POLICE HUNT FOR RAPIST WHO FLED DURING TRIAL IN LONDON
Police are actively searching for Harun Rashid, a man convicted of rape who went on the run during his trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
Rashid, aged 37, was found guilty of raping an 18-year-old girl after posing as a minicab driver.
The incident occurred in September 2001 in London, where Rashid had lured the victim after she went out with friends.
Instead of taking her home as arranged, he drove her to a street in East London, where he threatened her with death and proceeded to rape her.
The victim managed to escape and called police for help.
Despite her call for help, Rashid was not apprehended until November 2006.
He was subsequently sentenced in his absence to eight years in prison, with three additional years for false imprisonment and indecent assault, to run concurrently.
The authorities are calling on the public to provide any information that might lead to his arrest, with contact numbers provided.
