RAPIST SEXUALLY ASSAULTED 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL AFTER BEING FREED EARLY FROM JAIL
A man with a history of sexual violence committed a new assault on a teenage girl after being released early from prison.Hamid Zaman intruded into a bedroom at a flat in Edinburgh, targeting the young victim.
The 46-year-old was violent during the incident, which involved a terrified 13-year-old girl who eventually managed to escape.
Following the attack in October 2024, Zaman fled the city and was later located in London several weeks afterward.
He admitted guilt to a charge of sexual assault during his court appearance at the High Court in Glasgow.
The judge remanded him into custody, and he is set to be sentenced for this recent offense at a future date.
Zaman had previously been sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2015 in Manchester for raping a 33-year-old woman; during that attack, he also used a brick and glass bottle as weapons.
He was released early from prison in November 2020.
During the proceedings, the court was informed that although Zaman was under a strict sexual harm prevention order, he began communicating with a woman online in 2024, which resulted in him visiting her home multiple times that year.
Prosecutor Louise Beattie emphasized that the woman was unaware of his past criminal record or registered sex offender status.
The 13-year-old girl was staying at her flat when the assault occurred.
She awoke in the early hours to find Zaman beside her on the bed.
He molested her and then handed her £10.
Subsequently, Zaman left the room briefly, but returned to assault her again, offering her more money as a bribe to remain silent.
The girl became distressed, and Zaman’s behavior escalated.
Miss Beattie recounted: “Zaman became angry, covering her face with one hand while wrapping his other arm around her neck, squeezing and twisting it so she could hardly breathe.
He then covered her mouth with his hand to silence her and grabbed and twisted her lip.” Zaman used profanity and warned her not to speak about what had happened.
