SLOUGH MAN JAILED FOR NINE YEARS FOR SALT HILL PARK RAPE AND ASSAULT
A 23-year-old man from Slough named Hamid Mahmood, residing on Griffin Close, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being convicted of rape and assault.The incident took place at Salt Hill Park, where Mahmood and another man approached a woman in her 40s walking behind Montem Leisure Centre around 2:30am on August 17, 2016.
Mahmood raped her and then violently assaulted her by smashing a wine bottle over her head, an act that left her in a life-threatening situation.
During the sentencing at Reading Crown Court, Recorder David Brock described how the victim, after being assaulted, managed to get to her feet and was holding a wine bottle.
Mahmood, instead of walking away, took the bottle from her and struck her across the head with such force that it shattered, injuring her face and head.
Prior to sentencing, Mahmood pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on October 26.
He was also sentenced to an additional 18 months for the assault, with a combined sentence of nine years.
Mahmood is required to register as a sex offender and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
Detective Constable Ross Fleming from Berkshire Force CID highlighted the bravery of the victim, who has shown remarkable resilience by reporting the crime and assisting with the investigation despite her trauma.
The court heard about the detrimental impact the incident has had on her life, and various witnesses' cooperation was acknowledged as essential for reaching this conclusion.
The case underscores the importance of victim support and justice, with Mahmood now facing significant imprisonment and legal restrictions to prevent future offenses.
