A man identified as a danger to women due to his actions was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for a violent and controlling assault.
Guiseppe Capparelli, aged 26, was found guilty of raping a woman after a trial, despite denying the charge.
Judge Timothy Clayson, during sentencing, described Capparelli, who resides on Tonge Moor Road in Tonge Moor, as an "overbearing bully." He received a prison term for the single count of rape and will serve an extended sentence of three years, requiring him to be under supervision after release.
Capparelli was also compelled to notify police of his whereabouts for life.
The jury at Bolton Crown Court was told the assault took place at his parents’ house on July 25, 2009.
It was reported that Capparelli raped the victim, whose identity is protected by law, shortly after his mother left his bedroom.
The woman needed hospital treatment following the attack.
The crime was only reported to police in June 2010, after Capparelli was released on licence from a 30-month sentence for various previous offences, including assault, bodily harm, criminal damage, and harassment, in May 2010.
Defense lawyer Hugh Barton urged the judge not to impose an indeterminate sentence.
He argued that Capparelli, who has been in custody since September 2010—apart from 10 days—has found prison increasingly difficult and described him as a hardworking, well-loved family member.
Judge Clayson commented: “You raped her without regard for her distress.
It was a dominating and humiliating act of forceful rape.
You blamed your victim and see yourself as responsible and attractive.
Your behavior was that of an overbearing bully.”
