MAN JAILED AFTER 'VICIOUS' HOLIDAY ATTACK ON GIRLFRIEND
A man from Coventry has been incarcerated following a brutal assault on his girlfriend while they were traveling abroad.Guillaume Buckingham, residing on Mellowship Road, received a prison sentence of three years and nine months after admitting to a charge of malicious wounding with intent.
In addition to his jail term, Buckingham was issued a seven-year restraining order that prevents him from making any contact or approaching the victim—his former partner.
A representative from Warwickshire Police commended the victim who demonstrated remarkable strength by coming forward, aiming to prevent others from suffering as she did.
"The couple were on holiday abroad when Buckingham launched his vicious attack," the police spokesperson explained.
"The victim reported the attack when they returned home.
We launched an investigation and were able to bring Buckingham to justice before the court.
The police officer highlighted the difficulty victims face when pursuing legal action in domestic abuse cases, praising the resilience shown by the survivor.
“She wanted to ensure he could not harm other women and felt it was her duty to see justice served for herself.
While court outcomes do not erase what happened, we hope she can find some closure and begin to rebuild her life.” Addressing others who may find themselves in similar circumstances, the spokesperson advised: "For victims of domestic abuse, going through the legal process can be daunting, and this victim has shown great resilience.
We know the victim wanted to make sure he couldn’t harm other women.
"She also felt she owed it to herself to make sure he didn’t get away with the most horrific violence he subjected her to.
While the outcome at court will never take away from what happened, we hope the victim can start to rebuild her life."
