MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR KILLING EX-GIRLFRIEND IN ‘FRENZIED’ KNIFE ATTACK
Grzegorz Kosiec, 23 years old, received a life sentence after being convicted of murdering his former girlfriend, Karolina Chwiluk, who was 20.The fatal incident took place on the evening of May 4 in Mile End, east London, where Kosiec launched a violent attack, stabbing Chwiluk multiple times with a kitchen knife during a frenzied assault.
Chwiluk, a student studying architecture at Westminster University, sustained 26 wounds, including cuts to her face and neck, which led to her death.
Court evidence indicated that jealousy was the motive behind the killing, as she had begun seeing a mutual friend just three weeks after their breakup.
The prosecution described the attack as undoubtedly 'frenzied and violent,' emphasizing that she had no chance to defend herself.
Kosiec, a Polish laborer, claimed he loved Chwiluk and only wanted to have a conversation with her that day.
He admitted to her murder and also acknowledged wounding two others, Dawid Czerwiwski and Monika Fijak.
When arrested, he stated that he had not intentionally hurt anyone else and that he only acted because others were trying to restrain him.
Judge Mark Lucraft QC sentenced him to a minimum of 20 years in prison, highlighting that jealousy drove the murder and noting that Chwiluk had clearly indicated their relationship was over.
The victim's stepmother, Anna Machala, described Karolina as someone with immense potential who could have positively impacted the world, expressing how the loss has deeply affected her family.
This case underscores a tragic domestic homicide fueled by jealousy and uncontrolled aggression, resulting in a lifelong sentence for the perpetrator.
